Did anyone get to the Worldcon this way?|
"Take exit (mysterious mass of Kanji)" is almost as bad for most of us as kayaking the Pacific.
It's that "slight right at Turtle Bay Hilton" that gets me. After kayaking across the Pacific Ocean, I'm too tired. *whew* I hope they have room service.

Oh, that's priceless.
And while Lisa and I didn't go quite that route, we did fly 5000 nm out of our way in order to get World Business Class seats -- Portland-Seattle-Honolulu-Narita instead of the direct Portland-Narita. Mind you, coming back, they asked for volunteers to be bumped, and in exchange for staying over an extra night in a nice enough hotel at their expense, they sent us back directly, so while we left fifteen hours late, we only arrived eight hours late, which was fine with us, and we saved a hotel night at Portland in the process.
At least they don't make you drive across Midway Island, though the kayak route seems to kink there.
Pored over the photos for a while, failed to spot any gooney birds.
Oops, they need to update those directions. The Turtle Bay hotel hasn't been a Hilton in over 8 years. Someone might get confused!
I realize it's traditional, but why, specifically, take a kayak (as opposed to steam ship or cigarette boat or maybe dirigible)?
Probably because it's the silliest (or perhaps the hobby of whoever put the entry in the routing table). Remember, crossing the smaller ocean involved swimming.
They've changed the directions. It now involves sailing (rather than kayaking), and driving across Oahu along the way.
